Tropical Green Smoothie

If you’ve known me for a while, you probably know that I drink smoothies regularly. Like almost every day.

The way I see it, a smoothie is one of the easiest ways to take in a whole bunch of fruits and veggies first thing in the day. I pretty much make every smoothie green — meaning that I add spinach or kale to each smoothie recipe and blend it in. You can’t taste the greens AT ALL but you’ll know that it’s there by the altered color. This smoothie is literally green in color, but in a berry smoothie, the spinach or kale will turn your smoothie more of a brown color.

This recipe is one of my favorites for the summer – the tropical fruits take me back to Hawaii and feel a lot more like a treat than a healthy meal. Oh, and this smoothie recipe is great for all you standard process cleanse readers.

One little tip: a good blender really is key to mixing things like spinach and kale to drinks. I’m a HUGE fan of my Vitamix blender, but if you can’t afford one, I’ve also heard good things about the Ninja and Blendtech. What you don’t want are little bits of spinach leaves floating around in your drink. No thanks! A good blender will cut it up so fine that you can’t spot the leaves anymore.

Tropical Green Smoothie

In your blender combine:
1/2 ripe banana
1 cup frozen pineapple
1/2 cup frozen mango
2 oranges, freshly juiced (or just 1/2 C of orange juice)
1/2 cup unsweet almond milk
a hearty handful of spinach or kale (a little over one cup)
a bit of cold water, just enough so that everything will blend
1-2 T chia seeds (optional)

Drink up and feel strong!
